About the Role 

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Team Leader Dental Assistants, Surgery & Oral Medicine. The role provides leadership, coaching and direction to the dental assistants working in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Medicine and the Day Surgery Unit at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne.  

The Team Leader provides support to the clinical areas by coordinating DA operational activities. This role will support the provision of high quality care through a culture of respect, safety, transparency, accountability, teamwork and collaboration ensuring the promotion of multi disciplinary teamwork.  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage the resourcing allocation of the DA team including trainees and casual staff to ensure effective utilisation of resources to meet patient and clinician needs. 
  • Review the daily operations of the DA team to ensure RDHM delivers efficient and coordinated patient focused services through the Dental Assistant workforce. 
  • Monitor DA team budget including salary, consumables and other non salary budget in collaboration with the Operations Manager, Surgery & Oral Medicine.  
  • Participate in strategic and business planning processes and projects related to the RDHM.  
  • Meet Occupational Health & Safety guidelines and quality assurance. 
  • Develop and track team KPIs including analysing quality and performance trends and provide recommendations and reports for continuous improvement to the Operations Manager, Surgery & Oral Medicine to ensure the team meets activity targets and standard operating procedure wait list requirements.  
  • Facilitate and maintain effective communication channels and relationships between Surgery & Oral Medicine and all other departments within OHV.  
  • Manage complaints and critical incidents relevant to dental assistants to finality and flag any major themes to the Heads of Units/Department and Operations Manager.

About You 

Essential 

  • Minimum Certificate III in Dental Assisting  
  • Broad clinical knowledge as a Dental Assistant or Practice Manager  
  • Experience managing a team in a clinical setting  
  • Knowledge of patient care processes and techniques   
  • Experience in conflict management and resolving of customer and stakeholder complaints.  
  • High level knowledge of and experience in managing budgets and financials    
  • Knowledge of and experience in rostering/resource management systems  
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite of programs  
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills   
  • Building and maintaining strong and diverse stakeholder relationships   
  • Leading change/process improvement initiatives within a unionised environment   

Desirable 

  • Certificate IV in Dental Assisting   
  • Qualifications in business management   
  • Experience with patient management system e.g. Titanium
